Festival-goers told to ‘rock best look’

- Piers Fuller piers.fuller@stuff.co.nz

Toast Martinborough has always been an event that prompts people to dust off their glad rags, but this year the most stylish could have a chance to become ‘‘Instafamous’’.

Toast organisers are making a big deal of the fashion aspect of tomorrow’s wine, food and entertainment event and punters were encouraged to ‘‘rock their best look’’.

Event manager Anna Nielson said fashion ambassadors Larissa Carlson and Robin Johnson would be roaming the event looking for festival-goers with sartorial chops.

‘‘It’s not necessarily about being dressed up to the nines. Somebody who you just look at and go ‘wow, however they’ve put themselves together, they’ve got it going on’,’’ she said.

So now is the time to pick out that snazzy pair of shoes, fantastically cool hat or funky jacket to make your look pop.

People will be shoulder-tapped with spot prizes and the most stylish Toast-goers will be judged at the end of the day in the Supreme Style Award.

Nielson said others who haven’t been seen by the fashion ambassadors could send in a full length photo of themselves in one of the vineyards, tagging themselves into their dedicated Instagram site with #fashion find sin the vines.

‘‘Once we find all those wonderful photos of people rocking their best style, then our fashion ambassadors will pick out the top nine finalists and that will be voted on through social media.’’

Looking good can also have an influence on the atmosphere and etiquette of the day.

‘‘People tend to bring their best behaviour when they get dressed up for something,’’ Nielson said.

There were generally two types of people who turned up to Toast – those looking to chill with friends over a cheeky local vino and those who wanted to be part of the buzz among the crowd.

With 10 venues, all with their own forms of entertainment, organisers made it easier for people to see what place might best suit their vibe.

By keeping tabs on the numbers and the queues, they were able to designate whether a venue was ‘‘pumping’’ or ‘‘chilling’’ with signage at the gate.

‘‘There’s something for everybody and we’re managing their expectations as they go onto a site so they have a really cool day.’’
