TO THE POINT

-

The new taxpayer-funded climate change school curriculum being rolled out nationwide includes lessons on Greta Thunberg, dealing with ‘‘scepticism’’ and ‘‘myths’’, and advice to eat less meat and dairy products, and wherever possible avoid driving and flying. God save us – this isn’t science, it’s taxpayer-funded propaganda designed to freak out and bully susceptible young children into political activism. Teachers should teach, not preach.

I agree with Francesca Hilbron (Jan 14) that animals must be protected in their natural habitat. Conservation efforts are to be applauded and supported. However, bringing snow leopards to the Wellington Zoo as a means to raise awareness is misguided. Better to contribute to protecting these animals in their natural environment.

Statues are a thing of the past, we haven’t erected one in Wellington since Keith Holyoake. Please, let’s not start again.

When are we going to start reacting to the incredible innovations from other countries? Norway is recycling 98 per cent of plastic bottles through legislation and now London is installing ‘‘City

Trees’’ which guzzle the same CO2 as 275 normal trees. We need to be greener in New Zealand and it’s being made easier for us because we don’t even have to come up with our own ideas!

Relocating koalas to NZ is a great idea. They can take their place alongside all those other introduced animals, like rabbits, rats, stoats, weasels, wallabies, possums and other such useful species.

Funny how in every NZTA ad for road safety the road surface and markings are perfect. Hardly a true reflection of the quality of the roads the agency provides over most of the country.

It’s so good to see ‘‘Kiwi ingenuity’’ is alive and well. Congratulations to the Hawke’s Bay fruitgrowers who marketed and made available hailstone-damaged nectarines. Who minds a few dents in the skin when we can enjoy this nutritious, delicious fruit at an affordable price.

Only the lonely. Eric Young on Prime is the only solo newsreader. He can do it on Prime, a channel I like, so why can’t the two on TVNZ do it and save money.
