- It’s a winner Common Ground at Waitohi Hub

New Courtenay Place spot Winner Winner serves more than just a chicken dinner. Hailing from Hamilton, Winner Winner has just opened its Wellington store and customers can enjoy a quick but hearty roast chicken with all the trimmings – with plenty for vegetarians and vegans, too.

‘‘We specialise in fire-roasted and fried chicken,’’ says store owner Chantha Un.

‘‘Our fire-roasted chicken is definitely a standout and a hero on our menu. We slow-roast this in-store daily – it makes a great shared dinner.’’

Diners can customise their meal with a selection of fresh daily salads, charred vegetables and sides such as fried mushrooms served with vegan mayo.

Winner Winner serves a range of Garage Project beers and Master of Ceremonies’ wines, as well as nonalcoholic sodas, juices and kombucha.

Make sure you leave room for dessert too, as there’s a range of decadent homemade pies.

‘‘We wanted to offer a menu that was authentic and inclusive, so no matter who you sit down with, no matter their preferences, you’re able to share a meal with the people you love,’’ says Un.

‘‘We wanted a place in the city that is an easy option for healthy, fast, fresh meals for lunch, dinner or inbetween.’’

Clark’s Cafe closed last year along with the central library, but the popular coffee spot has fortunately been reincarnated as a new cafe – again, inside a library.

Andy Little and Sam Huy have recently opened Common Ground, inside Johnsonville’s new Waitohi Hub.

‘‘We want our cafe to be a place where everybody can come in, be themselves and relax in a special environment. We want to be the heart of the northern suburbs,’’ say Little and Huy.

The extensive range of cabinet and cooked food on offer features inclusive options such as vegan and gluten-free items. The beverage list has an incredibly local flavour, from Flight Coffee to drinks from Phoenix
