Get creative with fun-filled events

-

School holidays next week are great news for kids but possibly less so for parents about to face a variation on the ‘‘Are we there yet?’’ mantra – namely, ‘‘What are we going to do today?’’

Getting outdoors is a healthy and fun way to burn off energy, presuming it doesn’t rain.

But even if it does, never fear! The team at Capital E always have plenty planned indoors too, with the spring holidays no exception.

Theatre shows, creative opportunities in the digital studios, craft sessions and even a scientific journey into the wondrous world of light ensure there is something for everyone.

Imaginations will be needed for children designing their own board game (October 8) in a workshop where they will apply the same thought processes professionals use to create video games.

Similarly inventive are the ‘‘Design your own planet’’ sessions (October 2 and 9), which give tweens a fascinating glimpse of actual world-building as they discover must-know details about atmospheres, planets and our solar system.

The science theme continues with ‘‘Science Jam: Beam me up!’’ (October 8). Using lasers, lenses and cameras, Professor Inventus will shed new light on

the unseen and in doing so answer such mind-benders as, What is light? What’s it like to see like a bee? And what colour is the universe?

Younger ones can enjoy a colourful time of their own making a kaleidoscope (September 30) or stained glass (October 7) at ‘‘Little Creators’’ sessions entirely free of charge.

‘‘Digital Day’’ will take care of an entertaining five hours (September 29 and October 6) as children explore their digital creativity at PlayHQ. This

includes working together film a funny TV show.

For a more polished performance, grab tickets to Capital E’s 45-minute theatre show, The Lost Letter Office (October 10), where letters from a young girl and a retired magician go on an adventurous journey, helped along by some bumbling sleuths.
