Longo nabs Mainland prize

-

Football Ferns star Annalie Longo and former Canterbury United striker Michael White have won Mainland Football’s player of the year awards.

Longo, 24, won the women’s midfielder of the year award, and lead Coastal Spirit to another Mainland premier league and Reta Fitzpatrick Memorial Cup double.

She has won 81 international caps and is one of the few Football Ferns first-team regulars playing club football in New Zealand.

White, a 28-year-old former A-League player, shattered the Mainland Premier League goal scoring record with 24 strikes for Ferrymead Bays to win the Golden Boot and men’s striker of the year awards.

Cashmere Technical scooped the team awards in the men’s section, winning the Mainland Premier League, the South Island Championship, Hurley Shield and English Cup and the McFarlane Cup for the highest ranked Canterbury Chatham Cup team.

Their captain Tom Schwarz won the defender of the year. Nelson Suburbs’ Coey Turipa was goalkeeper of the year with his clubmate Atkins Kaua won the youth player and top midfielder categories.

Universities team-mates Holly Pascoe and Lee Maoate-Cox won the youth and defender of the year awards, respectively.
