A Canterbury butchery has taken out the title of New Zealand’s ham of the year. Akaroa Butchery and Deli’s manuka cured ham beat 56 other entries for the top title. The judges described the manuka honey cured ham as having excellent presentati­on and eye appeal, with a sweet taste and appealing texture. Dunedin’s Agora Butchery and Deli topped the 100 per cent Best New Zealand Pork Competitio­n with its pulled pork entry. Entries were scrutinise­d by a panel of 33 leading chefs, food connoisseu­rs and master butchers.
