Minto’s promises impossible to keep

-

John Minto has promised a number of policies he says he will put in place if he becomes mayor.

One – the free bus service – he cannot do as the Christchurch City Council does not control the buses.

Secondly, he is going to pay for them, by not going ahead with some roads. How is he going to do this as the city council does not pay for these roads either.

Thirdly, regarding cleaning up the rivers so they can be swum in, I don’t think there are many rivers that the council controls, so – once again – how is he going to do this?

Perhaps he should go back to his old hates and lobby the South African government to get away from their idea to have their sports teams selected on a racial basis, ie they now must have 50 per cent of non-whites. R Lucas Papanui

Swimming in icy, clean rivers

Would mayoral candidate John Minto inform us if the free buses will be going to the swimable rivers.

If so, would he put on his to-do list that he will heat them as New Zealand’s snow-fed ones are only fit for polar bears or Eskimos.

You do not need to go into detail, John – just a yes or no will do.
