Dump computer modelling

-

What a sensible letter by Val McClimont (Aug 26) pointing out the fatal flaw in the council’s district plan for the coast.

The unhealthy obsession with computer modelling, to the total exclusion of empirical data, pervades much of what passes for science these days. But there is glamour and money to be had in modelling, especially when the outcomes can be manipulated to suit preconceived notions and political agendas.

This nasty habit is rife within the climate science community and does not stop with modelling sea-level rises. The same is true for projected temperature rise. Yet it is well known and admitted, even by the IPCC and the modellers themselves, that these modelled projections bear no resemblance to reality. This nonsense science is now impacting on society, especially property values on the coast. It is time to dump not only the models, but the IPCC. Joe Fone Spreydon
