Farm-bike crash victim mourned

- DAVE NICOLL

The 11-year-old girl who died following a farm bike accident in Southland is being remembered as bubbly, vivacious and larger than life.

Jessica Rose Robson, 11, died on Saturday in Starship Hospital, Auckland, following a motorbike crash on September 10.

Robson was riding a 50cc bike in a paddock by Thompsons Crossing Rd West, near Winton, when the bike she was riding was clipped by another vehicle as she rode out of a paddock.

She was taken to Southland Hospital with serious head and leg injuries, before being transferred to children’s hospital in Auckland.

Robson’s aunt said the family were mourning the loss of a very special daughter and sister.

‘‘Jessie was bubbly, vivacious, full of fun and larger than life.’’

Robson had many friends and was a busy student at Lochiel School, most recently taking a lead role in the school performance of Alice in Wonderland, her aunt said.

Her parents, sister and brothers, as well her wider family, would miss her passion for reading, sport, her friends and her fullsteam-ahead approach towards life, she said

‘‘Her parents would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to help Jessie – St John Ambulance, Southland Hospital, Life Flight, Starship Hospital and Ronald McDonald House as well as everyone who have extended their offers of help and assistance at this difficult time.’’

The support and concern the entire family had received was greatly appreciated, the aunt said.

But now they were asking for privacy during this sad time, she said.

Police said in a statement that the investigation into the crash was ongoing and there were no further details available.

They could not confirm if any charges had been laid in relation to the crash.
