Crossbred slide bottoms out
Crossbred wool prices appear to have levelled after an offering of 12,000 bales went to the Christchurch wool sale last Thursday.
After a declining market the last few months prices looked to have stabilised for crossbred pre lamb and hogget fleece.
Crossbred fleece prices were mostly firm compared with the last sale on September 8 and hogget fleece was slightly cheaper.
Prices for mid micron wools from 22 to 31 microns were erratic with much of it passed in after failing to meet market levels.
A good offering of merino wool attracted attention from exporters and prices were on par with Australian sales lately.
New Zealand Wool Services International reported the fine wool sector eased slightly with coarser wools in steady demand. Merino good style full fleece 17 to 18.5 microns was firm to 1.5 per cent dearer.
Good style mid micron fleece 25 to 29 microns was firm to 2.5 per cent easier with poor styles 6 to 8 per cent cheaper.
About 30 per cent of the offering was passed in after failing to meet reserve prices with most of the unsold lots coming from the poorer and faulted types within the merino and mid micron area.
