Road charge exemptions for heavy electric vehicles
Transport Minister Simon Bridges has introduced a new bill to Parliament, tinkering with the laws to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles. The Energy Innovation Amendment Bill creates a new road user charge exemption for heavy electric vehicles until they make up two per cent of the fleet and amends the law so that Road Controlling Authorities can allow electric vehicles in special vehicle lanes. The changes are intended to come into effect on July 1 next year.
