Hagley Park goes Electric

-

Hagley Park is playing host to the third instalment of the Electric Avenue Music Festival this Saturday. Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the 12-hour event which will feature 30 acts spread across three stages.

Featured artists include Shapeshifter, Shihad, Hermitude, Dub FX & Tiki, David Dallas, Safia, Maala, Pitch Black and the Dub Pistols. Organisers are promising that the park will also be transformed by a massive light show, giant video walls, themed bars and carnival rides.

Speaking to Fairfax’s Grant Smithies recently, Christchurchraised Mike Hodgson, one-half of electronic dub duo Pitch Black, says it was always great to play on a big festival stage ‘‘at the peak of a night while not being a bang-it-out hard-and-fast sort of artist’’.

‘‘And it feels even better still that Paddy [Free] and I are still finding ways to make music together. In this crazy world where everyone’s streaming music for free, you only make money if you’re a huge star or someone who’s prepared to tour relentlessly. We’re neither of those things, but we still love doing creative work together. And who knows? It might be another 10 years before we make our next album, but the great thing about music is that once you’ve made it, it lasts forever. Once it’s left your studio, it just keeps on travelling, further and further out, finding people along the way.’’

Electric Avenue’s gates will open at 11am, with an official after party (for those keen to continue the festivities well into the night) also scheduled for Winnie Bagoes City from 10pm. For more information, see dashtickets.co.nz
