CHRISTCHUR­CH LIVESTOCK SALES

Prime lambs were back slightly but lighter store lambs made good gains in a big yarding at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultur­al Park, in Christchur­ch, this week.

The prime lamb market eased by $2 per head with heavy lambs at $115-$121.

Store lamb pens fared better with lighter lambs up $3-$4 in the biggest yarding of the year.

The prime ewe market remained strong with heavy ewes making up to $130.

Prime lambs

Values: The prime market for lambs eased by $2 per head across most weights as the Easter lamb trade comes to an end. Heavy lambs made $115-$121, good $108-$113, medium $95-$105 and lighter $85-$92.

Store lambs Values: The largest yarding of store lambs this year resulted in a large gallery of Mid and South Canterbury buyers in attendance. The market remained firm for the 32kg-plus lambs with the lighter lambs improving $3-$4 per head. Best lambs made $77-$82 with the odd sale to $90, medium $70-$75 and light $64-$70.
