PM’s response on uniforms kept short and simple

As a parent to six children, Prime Minister Bill English has no time to be concerned with what uniforms say about a student’s gender identity. Asked whether he took a view on PPTA calls for gender-neutral uniforms, English’s no-nonsense response said it all: ‘‘Depends what you mean by gender neutral. Some girls’ schools have girls wearing shorts - I don’t know if that’s gender neutral or just girls wearing shorts.’’ Parents wanted uniforms that were ‘‘hardwearing, easy to wash and easy to find’’.
