Nailing contemporary architecture

-

Johnny Moore hit the nail on the head. The earthquakes enabled both residential and commercial property owners to build strong, well designed and insulated structures that are thoughtfully laid out for modern conditions. Nobody has opted to rebuild their cold, old, 1930s home exactly as it was.

The same should apply to the Anglican cathedral. Sue Van Pelt Burwood

Cathedral for next generation

The last thing we need is someone so unconnected with Christchurch like Winston Peters getting involved in our cathedral.

A better alternative would be a vote by the true inheritors of our city, the under 30s.

Let us keep the oldies out of it. We are resistant to change and are highly opinionated whilst incapable of accepting any other opinion, especially from the young. I know – at 74, I am elderly too.

I’ve spoken to quite a lot of young people, some still in their teens, and I am convinced we could not put our city’s future in better hands. James Palmer Halswell

Two for the price of one

I have had a quick measure up and I’m almost sure there is room for the new multi-purpose arena to be built on the site of the Christ Church Cathedral in the Square.

That would leave the area intended for the arena free for building more houses; the Transitional Cathedral could continue to function and everyone’s problem is solved.

Members of the Great Christchurch Building Trust could then worship in the peaceful surroundings of the new central city multi-purpose arena. Vic Smith Halswell
