Five ways to Refresh your makeup palette

- Sarah Simpson

It’s easy to get stuck in a makeup rut – performing the same routine every morning, which you’ve managed to streamline and can nail in a matter of minutes. But why not use the new season to change it up and inject some colour into your look?

LIPSTICK

If you’re always reaching for your trusty nude lippy, now is the time to change it up.

Seek out a bright lip colour for a new take on your makeup. The beauty of a bright lipstick is that you’re able to really pare back the best of your look. A slick of mascara and a groomed brow is all you need when you’re letting your lips be the star of the show. Choose a vibrant pink, red or coral like Quoi Makeup liquid lipstick in Electric Coral, $49, for a fresh new feel.

SHADOW

Eye shadows have come a long way in the makeup world and palettes like the Natio Natural Shades Eyeshadow Palette in Rosebud, $28, are the perfect way to play with colour without having to commit.

All the shades have been chosen to be complementary to each other and will allow you to create a multitude of looks. Play with some of the deeper shades to help define your eyes and choose colours which will also accentuate your eye colour.

BLUSH

Blush brings a complexion to life – it’s the perfect tool for making cheekbones pop and give colour to your skin.

A peachy-toned one like Bourjois Aqua Blush in IngeNude, $28, is a welcome change from pink and the cream formula blend seamlessly into your skin to reveal a dewy, natural finish.

Pop a couple of dabs onto your fingers or makeup brush and lightly pat onto your cheek area.

MASCARA

Who says mascara has to be black! Ditch the ebony and reach for a dark blue hue like Innoxa Lush Lashes Mascara in Navy, $25, to switch things up.

It’s great for adding a flash of colour without feeling over the top.

Either team the mascara with a smoky eye or opt for a nude wash of colour before popping two coats of mascara on – it’s fun and gives your look just a hint of difference.

LINER

Once again, try and avoid reaching for a black liner and play with shades like Shiseido Inkstroke eyeliner in Shinrin Green, $55. It will make your eyes pop thanks to the colour and also the formulation, which allows you to create a beautiful winged eye or smudge it out to create a more lived in look.

Use the liner on its own for a sleek look or darken things up by adding some green shadow for a new take on a smoky eye.
