Fairfax launches online job portal in ‘very congested market’

- JULIE ILES

Fairfax New Zealand has launched an international job search website, adding another option to the ‘‘already congested‘‘ local jobhunting market.

The publisher of Stuff,

and the

has partnered with job search company Adzuna New Zealand.

The job site will join a stable of Fairfax ventures, including broadband provider Stuff Fibre, community website Neighbourly and electricity retailer Energyclubnz, as the company seeks to diversify its revenue streams.

Fairfax NZ’s product and business development director, Robert Hutchinson, said: ‘‘Adzuna NZ brings a new level of sophistication to job search and employment data in New Zealand.’’

Adzuna advertises more than 15,000 jobs in New Zealand and has more than 10 million monthly visitors across 16 countries.

Adzuna has been in partnership with Fairfax Media in Australia since 2014. Adzuna chief executive Raife Watson said the Australian deal allowed it to leverage Fairfax’s online and print readership.

‘‘Having access to this audience, made up of high-quality talent and passive jobseekers, gives us an advantage over our competitors, and we look to emulate this success in our partnership in New Zealand.’’

Adzuna’s site collates and lists job advertisements from across the web and its pay-per-click model directs jobseekers directly to the employer’s application page.

The company mostly targets ‘‘passive candidates’’ which was why it considered Fairfax a good partner, Watson said.

‘‘If you’re reading articles on sport you’ll see job listings on sport. The same is true for articles on IT or construction.’’

For now the site is being run from Australia but Watson said he hoped to hire five or six people in New Zealand within 12 months. NZME, which publishes the

launched its own job portal, Yudu, last week.

Trade Me head of jobs Jeremy Wade said the Fairfax-Adzuna partnership was ‘‘another player in a very congested market here‘‘.

Wade was not concerned the two new competitors would affect Trade Me’s job listing business.
