School site plan not dead in the water

- (The Press,

The editorial Nov 11) is quite wrong with its assumptions that Redcliffs’ new school will be subject to future flooding.

If that were true, all the milliondollar-plus houses being built along that shoreline would also be flooded, along with tje whole townships of Redcliffs and Sumner. The Christchurch City Council would then be liable for all rebuilds because they gave consent?

The editorial writer is a scaremonger with no knowledge. It is a fact that New Zealand is rising out of the ocean, not sinking. The recent earthquakes actually lifted the Southern Alps and the Port Hills.

A few thousand years ago Banks Peninsula was an island and the Canterbury Plains didn’t exist. They do now, because of ‘‘natural climate change’’ that happens over all universes. It is called time. Time moves forwards, not backwards, unlike our new generation of leftwing conspiratalist non-thinking ‘‘teachers’’.

Go and look at the surf lifesaving rooms along New Brighton’s beaches. Water doesn’t come up any further than it did 100 years ago.

Christchurch is built on a swamp – end of story.

The chosen site for Redcliffs’ new school is amazing. It is quiet, with amazing views for the kids to enjoy – an ideal learning environment. It has easier and less dangerous access than the main road? A nobrainer, for those with no brain. Ron Williams
