City road signs not straight forward

-

I have a problem with the monolithic road sign structures in Christchurch city.

They are certainly big enough with plenty of space which begs the question why the street names are so small and for some difficult to read.

Even more difficult is the structure on the corner of Armagh and Colombo streets.

Travelling north from Cathedral Square you cannot read the sign as it is behind a tree.

Even in the winter it is extremely hard.

I hope the council does something about the sign structure so people can read it and leave the tree where it is.

I am reminded of a poster I have seen. It says plan ahead .

A pity the city planners did not. Graeme Sharp

Signs of the times?

Additional signs have appeared at roundabouts in my area warning of roundabouts but they are situated at the entrance to the roundabout and are of no use to warn motorists, who would have seen the existing sign some 20 metres back.

However, I really loved the sign at the end of the shared pedestrian and cycles at the junction of Awatea road and Wigram road warning users to give way to traffic on the main road, which is not even connected to it because the footpath is in between. Signs of the times, perhaps? Vic Smith
