Man sent girl sex videos
A 43-year-old man has admitted sending an underage girl 18 sex videos on the Google Hangouts messenging application.
Michael Francis Goodwin pleaded guilty to four charges at an appearance before Judge David Saunders in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.
Goodwin admitted charges of sexual conduct with a young person, indecent communication with a young person, possession of an objectionable publication and making an objectionable publication.
Police said Goodwin committed the indecencies by approaching the teen as she was in bed.
He later contacted her online and chatted with her, saying: ‘‘I am worried we might get caught. Do you delete everything? Are you still OK with me?’’ He told her: ‘‘We have to keep each other safe.’’
He then sent her a video showing him naked and masturbating himself. He sent her a total of 18 similar videos on Google Hangouts.
He was aware of the victim’s age.
On October 4, police searched Goodwin’s home and seized six electronic devices, which were sent to the police’s digital forensic unit for analysis.
His mobile phone indicated he had been searching for and viewing objectionable material including themes of bestiality, incest, teenagers and masturbation.
They found an image, which was likely taken on his tablet, showing him naked holding his penis in one hand, and a mobile phone showing an image of a naked young girl.
A video showing the victim naked was found on his tablet. Goodwin had encouraged the girl to make and send the video to him.
When interviewed by police, Goodwin admitted communicating with the girl and sending her naked videos and pictures of himself masturbating. He also admitted he may have touched her inappropriately.
Judge Saunders remanded him on bail for sentencing on January 25 and ordered a pre-sentence report.
