Another wide draw for Lazarus

-

Who says there is such a thing as third time lucky?

Mark Purdon is certainly not a believer.

Purdon and champion pacer Lazarus will start from a wide draw for the third time in as many starts in Western Australia tomorrow night.

Lazarus, who won his second New Zealand Trotting Cup earlier this month, is in Perth for the rich Inter Dominion series.

Two undesirable draws in his first two heats have not been able to stop the standout pacer recording a pair of seconds.

On both occasions, he has been brilliant despite his defeats.

Lazarus has another wide draw for his final heat when the third and final round of qualifiers are contested at Gloucester Park tomorrow.

Lazarus, trained by Purdon in partnership with four-time Inter Dominion winner Natalie Rasmussen, will leave the mobile arm from barrier seven. Despite Tuesday’s impressive heat winner Galactic Star starting from barrier two, Lazarus is a $1.18 chance to win the heat.

With 22 points, courtesy of his pair of seconds, Lazarus will only have to run in the top handful of runners to qualify through to the December 8 final.

Soho Tribeca, who is unbeaten through two rounds of heats, leads the points standings on 26 points ahead of Tiger Tara (25) with Chicago Bull, Galactic Star and 2015 Inter Dominion champion Lennytheshark all on 23 points.
