Duo get revenge

-

Four White Ferns have been playing out quite the battle in the Women’s Big Bash this weekend.

It was Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine smiling on Saturday following a last-ball triumph in their Adelaide Strikers gear against the Melbourne Rebels, but Lea Tahuhu and Amy Satterthwaite got the last laugh on Sunday by helping the Renegades claim a nine-run victory in the return fixture.

To Saturday at Gliderol Stadium in Adelaide first though, where Bates was the hero.

She was tasked with bowling the final over for the Strikers, with the Renegades needing eight runs to chase down their target of 140.

The first five balls went for six runs, meaning the Renegades needed two to win, or one to tie, with Tahuhu on strike for the final ball.

Bates delivered a pretty rank full toss, but Tahuhu could only chip it straight back at her for a caught and bowled, giving the Strikers the win.

Devine also contributed strongly with the ball in that match, taking 2-28 off her four overs.

Satterthwaite hit 56 off 40 balls in the loss, but her contribution of 49 off 37 would help setup revenge at the same ground on Sunday as her side posted 160-5 off their 20 overs.

Bates again looked as though she might be the match-winner when hitting 63 off 38 balls to get the chase off to the perfect start, but she lacked support at the other end.

Her dismissal, with the Strikers on 116-5 after 15 overs, ended any realistic hope of victory as they eventually fell nine runs short.

It was Tahuhu who was getting the plaudits this time around, with her restrictive 2-20 from four overs ensuring the Strikers’ chase never really got going to earn the Renegades their first win of the season.

Satterthwaite also took 2-33 from her four overs.
