Fairfax sells flagship magazine

-

Foodie magazine Cuisine has been bought from Fairfax Media in a management buyout.

Editor Kelli Brett and advertising manager Vanessa Stranan paid an undisclosed sum for the publication in a deal announced yesterday.

Fairfax New Zealand chief executive Sinead Boucher said Cuisine had been a trophy title for the media company but she had comfort it would continue to thrive under its new ownership.

‘‘It has maintained its legendary high production standards and commitment to excellence in its coverage of New Zealand food and wine, and continues to command widespread respect as the preferred read for serious foodies across the country,’’ Boucher said.

Fairfax NZ would provide advertising and production support to ensure the next edition of Cuisine appeared with no impact to readers and advertisers.

Cuisine was first published in 1986 and was bought by Independent Newspapers Ltd (INL) in 2001.

Fairfax NZ, which publishes news website Stuff and a raft of print titles including the Dominion Post, The Press and The Sunday Star-Times, bought INL in 2003.

Brett took over as editor in 2015. In 2014 Cuisine established the Good Food Awards programme and event, to recognise the country’s top restaurants. This is included in the sale. –Stuff
