New Year resolution

-

I wonder what will the New Year bring to the hard-pressed electors in the Canterbury region? Under the previous administration the buzz in the zone drone was all about depriving them of democratic rights.

Not to mention the disasters in the field of education, ECan in particular was removed from local governance and drawn under the controlling wing of the queen bee’s courtiers.

Well, we have now a new administration that is, on paper at least, given very much to the notion of democracy and to the accommodation of voices hitherto muffled or ignored.

They have certainly listened to voices emanating from the depths of the Pike River Mine, but what have they done of significance to signal that they are listening too to the voices that were pirated with the appointment of ‘‘Ecaneers’’?

Do they think that those voices were rightly silenced or are there plans afoot to turn up the hearing aid?

It would be good if they were to do that, because the disaster that has befallen our waterways etc. with the advent of seemingly uncontrolled intensive dairying would doubtless have come under a much closer local scrutiny, to good effect, that might have limited some of the excesses that are now all too apparent.

Now there’s a promising resolution for the new government to contend with.
