Pout like a princess

Make like Meghan Markle and go nude… on your lips anyway. Here are five favourites.

There’s nothing like becoming a princess-in-waiting seemingly overnight to skyrocket you to It Girl status.

Since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry a few months ago, “Meghan Mania” has swept the globe.

Part of the “The Markle Effect”, Meghan Markle’s penchant for nude lipstick has reportedly caused a spike in neutral hue sales, first sparked when the actress donned the colour in her first royal TV interview.

This year, nude lipstick sales have reportedly increased by 65 per cent.

According to Hello! magazine, Markle’s go-to is Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution lipstick in Very

Victoria, $46, a beige-pink hue in a rose gold bullet case. The shade was inspired by Victoria Beckham and is universally flattering to all skin tones.

Markle is among a number of celebrities who swear by Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, including Sienna Miller, Cindy Crawford and Amal Clooney. The former Suits star pairs it with a natural base, peach cheeks and a soft smoky eye.

If you can’t get your hands on a coveted Charlotte Tilbury, or you want to give something else a go, we’ve found the best dupes for a royal-approved pout.

Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Peacemaker, $50 at Mecca, comes in a handy wind-up applicator and has a buildable formula, so you can mix up how pigmented you want your look to be. It’s infused with shea butter, mimosa and sunflower seed for extra hydration. BY Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick in

Bloom Nude, $58 at Mecca, is a 3-in-1 hybrid of lip liner, lipstick and lip balm, which is ideal if you’re travelling and want to cut down on the amount of products you’re trying to cram into your makeup bag. The formula is coffee-drinking proof, and stays on all day.

We couldn’t write about nude lipsticks without including the holy grail, MAC Velvet

Teddy, $40. Even before it was leaked a few years ago that the tawny nude was Kylie Jenner’s go-to shade to perfect her overdrawn pout, it’s been a cult favourite.

MAC senior artist Kiekie Stanners says finding the perfect nude for you means you have a trusty lip colour for everyday wear, no matter the occasion. “A nude lip will always offset a dramatic eye and draw attention to creamy skin and highlighted cheekbones by removing the natural pink tones in the lips,” says Stanners.
