Ewe prices reached the unseen level of $278 at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultur­al Park, in Christchur­ch, this week.

A pen of nine Hawarden ewes made $170-$278 in a market lifting

$5-$7 a head. The best of them sold at a record price for the weekly market at the saleyards.

Prices were up for prime lambs by

$3-$4 and store lambs also rose $5.

Prime lambs

Values: A light yarding as a continued result of surplus grass saw prices increase by $3 to $4. Heavy lambs $160 to $180, good $143 to

$157, medium $128 to $140 and lighter

$115 to $123.
