Wool buyers lift bidding slightly
Wool prices were mostly firm for a large offering dominated by crossbred adult fleece at the Christchurch wool sale yesterday.
Lambs’ wool finer than 30.5 microns continued to attract strong demand.
Crossbred fleece 31 to 35 microns was unchanged from the last sale on February 22. Fleece 35 microns and stronger was up 1-3 per cent with better style types most affected.
Crossbred second shear was 2-4 per cent dearer on limited volumes and crossbred lambs wool 27 to 30.4 microns rose 2-5 per cent particularly for finer types. Crossbred lambs fleece 30.5 to 32 microns was generally unchanged, as were oddments. Mid-micron wools increased 3-5 per cent on limited volumes. About 9 per cent of the offering was passed in after failing to reach reserve prices.
