Dealer’s bikes seized
The Crown has seized a Harley Davidson trike and a Triumph motorcycle from a Dunedin drug dealer.
The Police Commissioner sought the forfeiture of the motorcycles, valued at $28,250, from Dunedin man Phillip David Wallace, who was jailed for two years and three months on 19 drugrelated charges on July 13, 2016.
The court heard Wallace sold cannabis and Ritalin to an undercover officer between July 2014 and September 2015.
Wallace sourced Ritalin from family members’ prescriptions, onselling it for $1 per 1mg. Over a three-year period his family members were dispensed Ritalin with a street value of $69,690.
The Police Commissioner applied for forfeiture of his black 2005 Harley Davidson Road King Custom motorcycle and a 2000 Triumph Sprint motorcycle.
Wallace told police the Triumph was his. Deidre Sim – who was in a relationship with him before his arrest in April 2016 – claimed she paid for the bike with money from her adoptive mother’s estate.
However, bank records showed her inheritance steadily reduced over subsequent years, with no large withdrawals around the time of the Harley purchase.
The man who sold the bike swore an affidavit that he sold it to Wallace, who paid $18,000 sight unseen in February 2015 and the balance of $5000 when they met at a friend’s house in Christchurch.
Texts from Wallace showed him repeatedly referring to the threewheel Harley as ‘‘my trike’’.
In a High Court decision, released this month, Justice Cameron Mander noted Wallace obtained the Harley Davidson in March 2015 and the Triumph in October the same year. Both motorcycles were more than double his annual declared income during this period.
