Mixed bag for wool

-

Prices for most wool types and styles were largely unchanged despite a larger than expected offering at the Christchurch wool sale last week.

The exception was the 29.5 micron and stronger lambs’ wool market which felt some correction and finished more in line with the North Island market. There was active bidding for an excellent offering of new season’s autumn shears.

Crossbred fleece 31 to 35 microns was 2 to 3 per cent cheaper compared with the last sale on March 22.

Crossbred fleece 35 microns and stronger was back slightly and second shear was 1 to 2 per cent dearer.

Lambs’ wool of 27 to 29.4 microns was unchanged and 29.5 to 32 microns fleece was 2 to 5 per cent cheaper.

Oddments were largely unchanged. Limited volumes of mid-micron wool increased 1 to 3 per cent.

Competition was well spread with about 15 per cent of the offering passed in after failing to reach reserve prices.
