New editor named

Kamala Hayman has been confirmed as the 19th editor of The Press. Hayman has been acting editor for the Christchurch-based newsroom since the departure of Joanna Norris in late 2017. Norris left after five years as The Press editor to take on the role of ChristchurchNZ chief executive. Hayman said she was honoured to take on a role leading a large team of talented journalists based in newsrooms across Canterbury, the West Coast and Central Otago, all working to champion their regions and the people within them, while holding those in power to account. The Press will change to a smaller compact format from Monday, April 30, on weekdays while remaining a broadsheet, complete with the Mainlander feature section and Your Weekend magazine, on Saturdays.
