Waiting for negative spin

‘‘You can be proud of your prime minister,’’ Angela Merkel has praises Jacinda Ardern. I’m wondering how Tracy Watkins or Duncan Garner will put a negative spin on that. Chris Brown Lyttelton

In praise of Commonwealth

There is no core social or political philosophy underpining the British Commonwealth. Its successes and failures depend as much on the individuals involved as anything else. And that is its strength – individual societies and outstanding individuals in those societies are given a voice. As a result the Commonwealth is not full of closed committees and closed minds. Simon Rolleston Bromley

No remedy for Richie?

I have been watching Richie McCaw and his wife Emma on TV running around the Port Hills in an ad for turmeric tablets. His wife thrashed him at the start, even getting home in time to have a shower before he arrived back. However, she is still thrashing him weeks later! Does this mean that turmeric does not work, or perhaps he did not take it? Then again, perhaps ex-hockey players are fitter than ex-rugby players. Wayne Hawkyard Rangiora

To Joe Bennett: Well said, Sir. Well said. I would simply applaud, but I fear you wouldn’t hear it. David McKee Kaikoura

Learning from experience

Anyone who has ever been in hospital knows that nurses deserve more, and soon. I hope Jacinda will find out why. Glen McAdam Kainga
