Boy Overboard by Peter Wells was a piece of my childhood. Hungry creek is an almost mythical setting that will live in my imagination forever. Wells explores that time of change when we oat in a sea of half-understood adult meanings. Its lyrical honesty gripped me and, more than any other book, inspired me to write. I brie y considered kidnapping Mr Wells, assuming his identity and thereby claiming his work. However, I’m neither sharpwitted nor a snappy dresser – the ruse would have failed.
