Crossbred prices lift across all types, styles

-

Crossbred fleece prices advanced in spite of a large offering at the Christchurch wool sale.

The market responded well to an offering including the last of the summer shorn ewe wools, older season wool and a top offering of longer lambs’ wool at the Thursday auction. Prices were well in the favour of farmers particularly for 29 micron and finer lambs’s fleece and the 31 to 35 micron ewe wool market. A quality offering of new season’s second shear fleece, reflecting a good growing season, also received widespread bidding.

Crossbred fleece 31 to 35 microns was 3 to 5 per cent dearer compared with the last sale on April 5. Also up was crossbred fleece 35.1 microns and stronger by 2 per cent, second shear by 1 to 2 per cent, lambs’s wool 27 to 29.4 microns by 3 to 6 per cent, lambs’ wool 29.5 to 32 microns by 2 to 3 per cent and oddments by 1 to 3 per cent.

A small offering of mid-micron wools increased 1 to 3 per cent. About 10 per cent of the offering was passed in after failing to reach reserve prices.
