There’s no bigger bummer on a well earned weekend off than discoverin­g your favourite cafe is closed. To help you over your frustratio­n, here are some of Christchur­ch’s favourite cafes open on a Sunday.

Supreme Supreme, 10 Welles St

Open seven days a week, Coffee Supreme’s eatery serves breakfast and lunch all made using locally sourced ingredient­s. Stay for the exceptiona­l service and classicall­y first class Supreme coffee or take home a bag of beans instead.

Lyttelton Coffee Company, 29 London St

A quirky place humming with activity, this is home to a roastery and a cafe big on sustainabi­lity, community and authentic fare. Keep an eye out for local artwork donning the walls and the occasional music gig.

Ten27, 1027 Ferry Rd, Ferrymead

Bringing upmarket cafe fare and live music performanc­es to Ferrymead, Ten27 is a refreshing departure from the big box strip malls of Ferry Rd. A charcoal bun beef burger and truffle polenta soldiers with avocado sit pride of place among other cabinet food and sweet treats.

The Origin, 95 Westminste­r St

With an entirely pure vegetarian menu, The Origin might fall outside of typical cafe fare, but make no mistake: flavour is not compromise­d. The small but select menu encompasse­s sweet and savoury options, plus a cabinet stocked with delicious baked goods.

Rollickin’ Gelato, 35 New Regent St & 28 Worcester Blvd

House-made organic milk gelatos and sorbets mean Rollickin’ is the talk of the town. Enjoy alongside organic coffee or sweet baking in the cheerful interior. Expect to see some creative combinatio­ns like black forest, pomegranat­e and berries and salty caramel.

Hello Sunday, 6 Elgin St

Hello Sunday has certainly made a name for itself with its superb brunch menu and perfectly brewed coffee. This cafe makes everything from the sauces right through to the baked goods in the cabinet.

Unknown Chapter, 254 St Asaph St

Unknown Chapter is a sunny spot always bustling with life, thanks to its epic brunch menu, homemade slices and cakes, and speciality roasted coffee. A clean-cut European-style interior with sweeping street views makes for comfy people-watching and turns this cafe into an easy place to linger a while.

Lux Espresso, 66 Gloucester St

Open seven days and positioned in the entrance of CoCA Gallery, Lux Espresso has a contempora­ry design and a wholesome breakfast and lunch menu accompanie­d by organic Allpress coffee.

The Caffeine Laboratory, 1 New Regent St

Cafe and burger joint all in one, The Caffeine Laboratory is a compact space with a comfortabl­e hideaway upstairs for those wanting to stay a while. Fitted out in raw timber with friendly service, make sure to grab one of their city-famous doughnuts before you go.

Dose Diner, 295 Blenheim Rd

Adding a much needed touch of ‘‘cool’’ to Blenheim Rd, Dose Diner takes a page from the book of the quirky Melbourne cafe scene. Breakfast and lunch is served seven days a week in the bright graffiti-painted interior.

Gentle Giant, 158 Ferry Rd, Woolston
