Christchur­ch stock sales

North Canterbury ram lambs broke through the $200 mark for the first time this season at livestock sales at Canterbury Agricultur­al Park, in Christchur­ch, this week. The Hawarden lambs made $203-$204, while good lambs made $180-$190.

A record was set for the top prime ewe price with three Dunsandel ewes making $286. Heavy prime ewes reached

$190-$230 in a strong market. The store lamb market lifted

$4-$5 in a light yarding.

Prime lambs

Values: Heavy lambs $200-$204, good $180-$190, medium $150-$170 and lighter $130-$150.

Values: A lighter yarding of prime sheep met with strong demand and the ewe market remained on a par with last week. Heavy ewes made

$190-$230, medium $140-$170 and light $110-$130.

Values: A small yarding of store lambs met with strong demand from Canterbury/Mid Canterbury buyers with $4-$5 lift again in value.

Sales included: Caledonian Farm (Greendale) 353 lambs at $124-$135, J Mitchell (Hokitika) 68 lms at $115-$133, DC Waddy (Cheviot) 32 lms at $136.

Prime cattle

Values: In a medium yarding well finished steers sold at similar values to last week. Cattle that were not in prime condition eased slightly, but cows improved by up to 10 cents a kilogram.
