Soft target for pillorising

Martin van Beynen in MSD client Mrs F no poster girl for poverty (July 7) reveals a bias that beneficiaries deserve to remain poor. A soft target for his pillory.

Rather, he should be in awe of her skill and enterprise in the use of her resources. The Ministry of Social Develoment was wrong: loans are clearly not income. Just because she is a beneficiary she should not be singled out or vilified for doing what she can to improve her situation. It is the system working: she did well for her children.
