Focus on the rogues
Christchurch City Council is again looking at restricting freedom campers, this time in Akaroa.
My partner and I recently spent a weekend there at one of the council-designated parking spots in our certified selfcontained campervan.
We did not go to the toilet in bushes or dump our rubbish; however, we did have a meal at a nearby restaurant, a coffee twice at a cafe, purchased clothing and travelled on the Black Cat cruise boat.
If responsible visitors are discouraged, local businesses will miss out. Perhaps the council could better monitor the rogue element and leave the responsible people to enjoy this wonderful town and continue supporting local business.
