Help for homeless

-

Nick Summerhayes (Letters, July 7) suggested a way to provide nightly accommodation for the homeless.

The city Long Term Plan (LTP) acknowledges the level of homelessness has increased after the earthquakes and states that there is a need to facilitate action to improve their housing. Notwithstanding these statements, there is little physical evidence to show any such action, nor apparently has there been any specific allocation of funds in the LTP for homeless housing.

This is an issue which the council has a moral responsibility to tackle now..

Irrespective of the way or where accommodation for the homeless can be arranged, there needs to be immediate financial provision to ensure all homeless people have adequate housing, particularly at night. Jim Crook, Avonhead
