Death after bus stair fall

An elderly woman has died after falling down the stairs of a double decker bus in the Auckland suburb of Silverdale. The woman, 74, was taken to hospital after the incident on Friday morning, and she died that evening in hospital said police Acting Senior Sergeant Nick Herd. ‘‘[She] was on the bus at around 10.30am when she noticed that a wallet had been left behind by a previous passenger and had gone downstairs to give it to the driver. It is at this time that she has fallen.’’ He said police were investigating the woman’s death and there were no suspicious circumstances. The matter has been referred to the Coroner.
