New facility opens at Lincoln

New Zealand Cricket’s High Performanc­e Centre marquee at Lincoln University’s Bert Sutcliffe Oval will today be officially opened by the Minister for Sport and Recreation Grant Roberston.

The Minister will cut the ribbon for the new facility that allows New Zealand’s elite and developing players to train all year round on grass at a ceremony in the marquee.

He will also have the chance to test out the new nets rolling his arm over himself.

NZC chief executive David White and board members, plus Lincoln University staff and representa­tives from Sport NZ and High Performanc­e Sport New Zealand will also attend.

Canterbury based Black Caps players all-rounder Todd Astle, top order batsman Henry Nicholls and pace bowler Matt Henry are taking part.

Henry, 26, is just back from a highly successful English county stint with Kent where he took took 65 wickets in all competitio­ns, including 49 wickets in just six County Championsh­ip matches.

Henry averaged 13.4 with the ball while claiming a scalp every 27.1 deliveries in first class cricket.
