Warriors tactic change on cards

- Jackson Thomas

Expect to see a more direct running Warriors side on Sunday, when they travel to take on the Broncos.

In last week’s ‘‘disappointing’’ 36-4 loss at the hands of the Panthers, the Warriors were guilty of trying to go around the opposition rather than the direct style of play that was the cornerstone of their early season success, captain Roger TuivasaSheck said.

The Panthers ran for 768 more metres than the men from Mt Smart, who at times looked lost on attack.

Tuivasa-Sheck said fans could expect to see a straighter, more direct Warriors’ attack come Sunday having learnt their lesson the hard way last week.

‘‘We need to use our middles a lot better to get forward and create some momentum for the backs to play off of, we know that,’’ he said.

‘‘That’s what we were lacking against Penrith was just that little bit more goforward, from our back five as well, so we all need to work together there to put in a better performance against the Broncos.’’

After bursting out of the gates to win their first five straight, the Warriors have now lost back-to-back games for the first time this year.

However, the fullback said that ‘‘swagger and confidence’’ that surrounded the group over the first month of competition was still theirs, and he expected his side to bounce back come Sunday.

‘‘The coaches keep saying that you don’t lose it overnight and we believe that,’’ he said.

‘‘We just weren’t able to find our rhythm against Penrith . . . It was a tough review, we were devastated, but this group, we always find a way to bounce back. You just need to look at that Melbourne game.’’

The Warriors were humbled 50-10 by the Melbourne Storm in round eight, but bounced back the following week to win 24-6 over the Wests Tigers.

‘‘We can all come together a lot better. We just need to stick together and prepare really well in order to put in a good performance in Brisbane.’’
