‘Tots to seniors’ covered at Bedworld

-

The right combination of bed and mattress changes for a person as their body does, although at all times a good night’s rest is essential to making the most of waking hours.

Beds aren’t just for sleeping, though, and getting the right mix of softness, support and strength counts just as much when it comes to relaxing with a book or tablet, watching some TV or just chatting with a partner at the end of the day.

For children’s beds, putting up with a bit of rough and tumble can be added to requirements.

Beds are so central to modern lives that Bedworld owner Mark Elliott says there are can be significant payoffs for people who take the time to find the model best for them.

‘‘We always encourage people to come and jump on a few beds at the showroom but also to tell us what it is they’re after so we can help narrow down the options. There’s a lot of variety and we cover it all, from tots to seniors,’’ he says.

Bedworld’s showroom on Ferry Rd has been a focal point for quality New Zealand-made beds for 20 years, with models from both industry heavyweights and boutique manufacturers.

The need for children’s beds to be durable and for seniors’ beds to remain comfortable for potentially extended periods means many of the best features are highlighted in those two ends of the market, Elliott says.

For example, the solid-timber, New Zealand-made bunks at Bedworld are exceptionally sturdy, he says.

The store also has loft beds for children with space beneath for a desk or dresser, beds with built-in drawers, and those with trundlers for when a friend stays over.

Adults’ models include those designed to reduce pressure points, for postural support, to eliminate roll-together, for sleeping right to the edge of the bed and with materials that put an end to allergy woes.

The brands are well-known for their quality and include Sleepmaker, Sealy, Beautyrest, Sleep systems, Mazon Virtali, Compac Furniture, Coastwood Furniture and Robax.

Elliott says for many people the pinnacle for bedding comfort can be found in the adjustable beds by Mazon Virtali.

While these have roots in the hospital beds built for people who might spend many hours at rest, in recent years a host of luxury refinements and tweaks have made them a top pick for anyone who wants the best in bedroom furniture.

An impressive array of features characterises these ‘‘lifestyle beds’’, including remote controls to raise backs, elevate feet and in some cases to set massage functions. On larger beds, the two sides can be operated independently.

Health benefits associated with adjustable beds are supported in Mazon Virtali mattresses by what is quite literally space-age technology. With a high-density, visco-elastic material created by Nasa, the beds are said to be so adept at distributing weight, users enjoy the sensation of weightlessness.

‘‘They’re fantastic beds and really show the versatility available,’’ Elliott says.
