Gardeners in demand

-

Lawn-mowing, weeding and backyard maintenance are back on the agenda as spring gives new life to gardens, and at the same time takes precious free time away from homeowners.

If only there were a way to enjoy a beautiful backyard and streetfront without all the hard work.

V.I.P. Home Services franchisor Estelle Logan chuckles at the idea; for more than 23 years she has watched as V.I.P. spread across the country to meet precisely this need.

The company’s outdoor professionals work yearround to keep lawns healthy and provide maintenance like fence staining, planter building and rubbish clearouts. The busy season, however, is just starting now.

Estelle says anyone who wants to be on a lawnmowing schedule over summer should make contact soon because demand continues to grow faster than they can recruit franchisees.

V.I.P. Home Services set up in New Zealand in 1992 and now has indoor and outdoor operations – primarily lawn-mowing and cleaning respectively – growing strongly on the back of a well-honed system.

Customers get free, fixed quotes before any work begins, a national helpline to call if they need anything, and the knowledge anyone on their property will be fully trained, security checked and insured.

But it’s the support offered to franchisees that holds it all together.

‘‘People tell us we go way beyond what others offer,’’ Estelle says. ‘‘Franchisees all get paid training but there’s also ongoing business mentoring to help them build the business and be really happy at it.

‘‘Christchurch has great opportunities for people motivated to become their own boss and who are ready to be accountable to themselves. It’s a chance to get rewarded for every bit of effort they put in, and use our system to make it happen.’’

New franchisees are currently needed in both the lawn-mowing and cleaning divisions of V.I.P. Home Services.
