August 13: Simon Bridges’ expenses for a Crown limo, flights and hotels are leaked.

Aug 15: Speaker Trevor Mallard agrees to a QC-led inquiry into the leak.

Aug 16: Bridges and Mallard get an anonymous text message urging that the inquiry be called off on mental health grounds.

Aug 19: Police tell Bridges they have identified and contacted the texter, who is getting support.

Aug 23: Mallard names Michael Heron, QC, to conduct an inquiry. A day later, he calls the inquiry off.

Aug 28: On Mallard’s request, Parliament­ary Services starts an investigat­ion into himself and parliament­ary staff with access to the travel expenses, using KPMG.

Aug 31: National launches its own inquiry regarding the search for the leaker.

October 2: Bridges announces Jami-Lee Ross will take leave for ‘‘a few months’’ to deal with personal health issues. Bridges says the issues are not related to the leak.

Oct 11: Mallard clears himself and all nonpolitic­al parliament­ary staff of any involvemen­t with the leak.

Oct 15: Ross tweets pre-emptively, saying Bridges is about to try to pin the leak on him. National’s report released later that day says while it had not been able to find the leaker ‘‘with certainty’’, the evidence pointed to Ross. Oct 16: Ross announces he will quit National and go to police with allegation­s of corruption against Bridges. Bridges calls his claims ‘‘entirely false’’.
