‘Lifestyle’ beds at peak of luxury

-

The revolution in ‘‘lifestyle’’ beds is continuing this month at Bedworld, where new models of the fully adjustable beds at the height of pampering have just arrived.

To celebrate, Bedworld is knocking 25 per cent off the price of all adjustable beds in store.

Lifestyle beds more than any other type put to rest the notion that a mattress and base set is just for sleeping.

Initially developed decades ago for hospital use, the powered beds have in recent years undergone an overhaul in style and functionality to become the most versatile and luxurious option available for bedrooms.

Massage, zero-gravity and anti-snore settings are often available at the touch of a button – usually on a wireless, backlit remote – and there are still the raisedback and leg-cradling positions that make watching TV or reading in bed so comfortable.

On larger models, the two sides often work independently so each partner can find their own perfect setting.

One of the widest ranges of lifestyle beds can be found at Bedworld, at the Waltham end of Ferry Rd.

The company specialises in quality New Zealand-made beds produced using world-leading technologies. Warranties for adjustable beds last as long as 20 years.

Bedworld owner Mark Elliott says the variety and close contact the company has with manufacturers often allows customers to match the base and mattress best suited to their needs. With some bases, upholstery can be customised in keeping with the decor at home.

Mattresses using memory foam, latex and the latest pocket spring technology are available, as well as those by Mazon Virtali. These use a high-density, viscoelastic material first developed by Nasa that is said to be so adept at distributing weight, users feel like they are floating.

Such a degree of comfort is a blessing for anyone who spends prolonged periods lying down. Other medical benefits attained through the beds’ adjustable settings can include reduced back pain, relief from arthritis and reflux, improved circulation, and greater comfort for pregnant women.

However, Elliott says users of all kinds are being drawn to the beds nowadays due to their sleek styling and the gadget appeal of new features.

‘‘These really are beds for your lifestyle. They’re no longer just for older people or those with injuries,’’ he says.

‘‘The ‘Hi Lo’ beds come down really low, which makes them very easy to get in and out of, but there are so many choices depending on what you want.’’

Elliott says the best way to explore the range is to visit the Bedworld showroom in Waltham and try a few.

‘‘We’ve just got new ones in so there’s now a bigger variety than ever. Staff are always happy to help explain the differences,’’ he says.

Bedworld has been operating on Ferry Rd for 20 years. In addition to lifestyle beds, they have traditional New Zealandmade beds in all sizes, mattress and base sets, slat beds, sturdy timber bunks, loft bunks, trundler beds, and a wide range of bedroom furniture.

Finance is available from no deposit.
