All Blacks

-

When the All Blacks toured South Africa in 1970 the game was markedly different, as was the appearance of the players when compared to now. The game has become monotonous with flat attack and defence leaving few options to vary play. The straight-running passing game is a thing of the past. In 1970 the attire was smart – black boots and white laces, black shorts and jersey with a crisp white collar. The black socks with white bands were always pulled up. Appearance was uniform and tattoos weren’t visible. By comparison many players now look like they are playing in a schoolyard rabble, boots of all colours, socks around the ankles, highly visible tattoos and laughable hairstyles. Clearly appearance discipline is non-existent.

Along with presentation, the devaluation of the jersey - the amount of rugby being played and televised is turning longtime supporters off and lessening game attendances.
