Another man appears over drop-off city death
A man charged with the murder of Shayne George Heappey has appeared in the Christchurch District Court via video-link.
Matthew Winara Webber, a 29-year-old contractor from Mairehau, in Christchurch, sought name suppression when he appeared before Judge David Saunders yesterday.
He entered no plea to the charge of murdering Heappey in Christchurch on December 8.
Defence counsel Kerry Cook said no bail application was being made and the remand could be in custody by consent.
Judge Saunders remanded Webber in custody to a hearing in the High Court on February 7.
Heappey was dropped at Christchurch Hospital on December 8 with life threatening injuries – said by a witness to be a stab wound – and died soon after.
A 50-year-old man charged with wounding him with intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been remanded in custody to January 11.
Another man appeared in the Dunedin District Court this week charged with his murder and was remanded in custody for a High Court appearance in Christchurch on February 5. He has interim name suppression.
A 26-year-old Christchurch woman, Leonie Sherie Cook, was charged with being a party to wounding Heappey with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and being an accessory after the fact to murder.
She also appeared on charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply and possession of a firearm without a licence.
Defence counsel Craig Ruane said no bail application was being made yesterday, but an electronically monitored bail application hearing was set down for January 31.
Cook was remanded in custody to that date, to appear by videolink, and the case set down for an appearance for pleas to be entered to the charges on February 7.
No application for name suppression was made.
