Summer of fun at stylish gastropub

- ❚ The Good Home Pegasus is open from 8.30am every day at 62 Pegasus Main St, Pegasus. Phone 03 967 6891 or find them online at thegoodhomepegasus.co.nz.

The long, sunny days of summer are what The Good Home Pegasus was made for.

Located on the shore of Lake Pegasus, the gastropub moves to a leisurely beat with large courtyards, a connoisseur’s bar and cosy corners for groups of all sizes to unwind in comfort.

There’s a breezy, nautical design in keeping with the ‘‘take your time’’ vibe of Pegasus, making it easy to plan a day out by including a bite to eat or cold drink after a forest walk or trip to the beach.

Cocktails, a wide range of tap beers and wines selected for the season also encourage guests to linger, as do food options covering everything from weekend brunches to juicy steaks, salads and platters for sharing.

With its prime position in the centre of town, The Good Home Pegasus is a popular meeting spot for locals as well as those from further afield.

A regular lineup of entertainment keeps punters happy and comes in addition to special events like this month’s afternoon of live comedy with Gary McCormick and Tim Shadbolt, who will be regaling the crowds from 2pm on Sunday February 17.

Sundays are always a good time to get family or friends together at The Good Home Pegasus. Live music features from 1pm to 4pm, followed by free fun for the kids from 4pm to 6pm as entertainer Shad Rutherford brings out the face painting, balloon animals and more.

Quiz night is held every Monday from 7pm – entry is free and there are prizes to be won – and live music is in place every Friday and Saturday evening to celebrate the weekend.

Menus, meanwhile, cater for those seeking a light bite, hearty meal or just a drink – although ‘‘just a drink’’ doesn’t do justice to the sweeping bar at the heart of The Good Home Pegasus.

Here, people can find daiquiris to sip in the sun, craft beers fizzing from the tap, and spirits of all kinds to complement the options in the intimate Johnnie Walker Whisky Lounge.

Wine tastings are held on the second Wednesday of each month – for February, that’s next Wednesday – and beer tastings are on the last Wednesday of the month.

Owner Andy Laloli says The Good Home Pegasus was modelled after all good homes by having multiple spaces so anyone can feel welcome, whatever their mood.

‘‘It might be hanging out in the sports den with the big screen, with family in the kids’ area, or just relaxing with a couple of friends over a beer or coffee in spot where you’re not going to feel closed in,’’ he says.

‘‘It’s a place where you can relax and be at ease while also enjoying some extremely good food and drink.’’
