Beauty Bra puts comfort in reach

-

Some women have been wearing uncomfortable bras so long they don’t know any different.

For decades, Marlene Dent was one of them, pinched around the sides by an underwire than still didn’t provide enough support to prevent her back and shoulders being strained.

It wasn’t until she discovered the Beauty Bra that everything changed. At a special seminar and fitting session, Marlene felt years of discomfort lift away.

She has now been sharing the benefits of the acclaimed bras for 13 years through personalised fittings with her company Fit 4 U.

Marlene says about 75 per cent of women aren’t wearing the right bra. The problem is often sizing, although designs can be problematic too.

‘‘It’s not good to push and squeeze breasts into ill-fitting bras but getting it right is really quite specialised.

‘‘Many of the store-bought bras just don’t give proper support,’’ she says.

The Beauty Bra – available up to size H – upends tradition by doing away with an underwire in favour of around-thebody support. An inbuilt shelf carries much of the weight, easing the pull on shoulders.

The design is particularly useful for women who have had a mastectomy because it prevents an underwire from digging into the rib cage and putting pressure on sensitive lymphatic tissue.

For slimmer, taller women, the ideal fit may be found in the ‘‘Smoothie’’ bra. These have a softer look that works well under T-shirts, silks, merino and cotton knits, Marlene says.

The Beauty Bra first came to New Zealand almost 20 years ago as the Jeunique bra. Since then, the range has gained a reputation for exceptional workmanship and comfort, with the bras typically lasting three times longer than a department store bra.

The manufacturer is ‘‘absolutely fastidious’’ about the quality of the fabric and tailoring, Marlene says.

‘‘These are the bras you wear every day as they offer total comfort and are completely breathable.’’

However, even the bestdesigned bra still needs to be a good fit.

To ensure this is the case, Fit 4 U provides private fittings in a relaxed, suburban environment. Parking is available up the drive and the fitting room is just a few feet from the door.

Once women start wearing a properly fitted bra, posture tends to improve, headaches and associated strains around the thoracic region are reduced and there is greater comfort during physical activity. Clothes also fit better and figures gain more attractive definition.

Shapewear is also available from Fit 4 U and the company is an approved supplier of bras and prostheses for women who have had mastectomies. Payments for mastectomy products can be handled directly with the Ministry of Health.

Marlene says the Beauty Bra made her daily life more enjoyable and her goal now is to share the benefits.

‘‘I found the uplift and support I’d always been looking for and I’ve worn these garments ever since. It’s made such a difference.’’
