Decorators ready to help
Professional painter and decorator Kevin Steel has just about done it all after more than three decades in the trade. But it is working alongside his daughter Nicole that has brought home how much the industry has advanced as more women join the ranks.
Nicole is a qualified painter and decorator, and like Kevin is now ramping up activities under level 3 guidelines to help people gain more comfortable and attractive homes before winter hits.
The pair specialise in painting, plastering and tiling, along with minor building work, and together have made Kevin Steel Painters & Decorators one of the most relatable and trusted teams around.
‘‘We’ve got a great rapport and it’s no problem leaving Nicole in charge because we’re both very much on the same page,’’ Kevin says. ‘‘It’s about respecting the property we’re working on and really giving every job our best.
‘‘Both of us take a lot of pride in helping people transform their home, whether it’s tiling for the bathroom or kitchen, a feature wall in a bedroom or lounge, or touching up areas after the usual wear and tear. It can make a lot of difference to the feel of a home.
‘‘We work on interiors and exteriors and always finish with a thorough tidy-up; we don’t skimp on the details.’’
Kevin says the increasing number of women working as painters is a sensible development because the hours can be flexible – handy for childcare – and it brings balance to the workplace. Like Kevin, Nicole often has ideas to help homeowners plan their decorating, such as colour schemes or whether to use wallpaper or paint.
‘‘We were very busy before the lockdown but now we’re refreshed and ready to start again,’’ Kevin says.
Services are regularly provided for landlords between tenants, and all jobs are covered by full liability insurance.
